Bourhan Tayara Archive collection
The archival collection of the Syrian architect Bourhan Tayara (1935–2018) is a developing collection at AMASyria – The Archive of Modern Architecture in Syria, marking the fifth collection in our growing archive.
Tayara’s first documented project from this collection was acquired during our work on the archives of Architect Mamoun Alwareh, a close friend and colleague of Tayara. Building on this foundation, AMASyria continues to locate and document further materials related to his legacy.
Bourhan Tayara was a prominent figure among the second generation of modern Syrian architects who profoundly shaped the country’s architectural scene. As both practitioner and educator, he left a lasting influence on his colleagues and students, where he worked and taught from the 1960s to the 2000s.
On October 24, 2025, we are releasing the first part of this collection in digital form. It features a proposal Tayara has produced for the Unknown Soldier Monument Proposal. AMASyria is continuesly working on researching, collecting, and docuemtning Tayara’s legacy, and we welcome all efforts and support in this regard from those close to him and beyond.
